New Zealand’s longtime hip-hop heavyweight David Dallas and celebrated Sudanese-American rapper/producer Oddisee, and announce their collaborative single, ‘Midas’.

Like a lonely king reclining on a throne surrounded by ruins, David Dallas adopts a sing-song rap style. Underscored by a shuffling boombap breakbeat and jazz/soul-inflected melodies and basslines produced by Oddisee, he sits in the afterglow of an evening that got away from him, matters of the heart, and the pressure points and challenges of everyday life.

“Medusa / one look and I turn to stone. She left / no wonder why I got so cold. King Midas / ain’t a damn thing I can hold. Why can’t everything I touch turn to / Why can’t eveything I touch turn to gold?”

This December, Oddisee is scheduled to return to Australia with his Good Compny live band to celebrate the 10th anniversary of his critically acclaimed album, The Good Fight (2015). Described by AllMusic’s David Jeffries as “inspired, infectious, and artistically grand,” it’s a certified fan favourite in Oddisee’s still-growing and ever-adventurous musical discography.

During this Australian tour, Oddisee and Good Compny will be joined by David Dallas at The Night Cat in Melbourne on December 5th. Don’t miss out on this rare opportunity to see these two talents from opposite sides of the world come together through a mutual love of music.
