Pouring himself into music as an avenue to navigate the emotional minefield that has been the last few years, Sydney based producer and multi-instrumentalist Scruffs presents his latest work, the We Outside Now EP.
Across eight tracks, Scruffs takes the listener on a journey through emotions and sonic textures – a record that is reflective of what we’ve just gone through but more importantly, it offers light and escapism for listeners to engage with as we find our way out of the dark.
Created during bouts of lockdown, the We Outside Now EP doesn’t have the weight of pandemic-driven depression or slog to it. Instead, Scruffs has brought together a myriad of sounds: glitches, late-night vibe beats, jazz-flecked grooves and soul. What the listener winds up with is the perfect soundtrack to get lost in, whether you’re at home alone, with your crew or simply getting on with everyday life.
“These are a bunch of songs made in the times of lock out laws and lockdowns. Shit’s been pretty tough the last few years. Being a musician living in Sydney, well anywhere, actually, things are slowly getting better but these are some songs I’d imagine people listening to in their headphones, out and about. Getting on with life; driving, walking, working, that kind of thing. Like a little movie soundtrack for your life.”
