We are excited to announce the official signing of Perth native Coin Banks to Low Key Source.
After a short hiatus, Perth rapper, Coin Banks is back! Having achieved an unparalleled run with the release of his ‘Heads’ & ‘Tails’ EP’s, Banks has been busy creating new music and developing his style which quickly established him as one of Hip Hop’s most exciting new voices; fusing the classic with the contemporary to forge a signature sound which proves as effective as it seems effortless.
With songs ‘Think Of You’, ‘Hatches’ and ‘Someone’ receiving full rotation on Triple J radio nationally, it introduced Coin Banks to his now dedicated audience. By the end of 2015, it saw him be the most played artist on Triple J’s Unearthed station along with being nominated as their artist of the year.
Banks has both national and international tours under his belt, supporting Cypress Hill, BIG KRIT, Illy, 360, Seth Sentry along with performing in Singapore as part of the Music Matters festival. Coin Banks also took out the WAM Song of the year in 2015 and 2016, as well as WAM Urban artist of the year 2015.
“The premise behind the “Heads” & “Tails” was to show two versatile sides,” says Banks. “The inspiration came from what I like to listen to, from the Native Tongues movement to its modern day equivalents like Top Dawg Entertainment: music that’s both stylistically original and tells a story. I got in touch with all of my favourite producers and developed a two-part release on which I could build a sound. I had some challenging life experiences in the past couple years, which has given me a lot of writing ammo, but now I am back with a lot of music and some great stories to tell”.
Balancing national tours and writing new material, Coin Banks is back with a truckload of new music to release throughout 2017. His new song ‘Be Real’ has been released to positive reviews and a warm welcome back to the scene.
“Be Real is a song inspired by the women around me who afraid to be themselves. They cover outsides in makeup and hide their true selves by being who they think people want them to be. The idea is that you are more beautiful when you are just who you are. Nobody can ever be a better version of you than you.” – COIN BANKS.
Expect to hear a new EP and album later this year with an official single coming very soon. Reacquaint or get to know about this Perth based Hip Hop artist by listening to his new song “Be Real” that was released last Friday.
